Ondara Glass Mosaics Installation Guide

Use this installation guide in conjunction with our step-by-step Ondara Glass Mosaic installation guide here.

To ensure the correct installation of Ondara mosaics, customers are responsible for hiring a qualified professional installer. Tiles of Ezra is not responsible for installation, ongoing care, or any issues that arise after receipt or installation of the product.

Ondara glass mosaics are produced using melted-glass techniques and assembled onto paper facing. This handcrafted process may result in slight tonal variation, subtle surface irregularities, and minor differences in sheet alignment. When blended and installed by an experienced tradesperson, these variations contribute to the refined, artisanal finish of the Ondara collection.

Your sample tile(s) may not be an exact match to your final order due to production timing and batch variation.

If a completely uniform, machine-perfect finish is desired, a more industrially produced tile may be better suited.

Review your order

Upon receiving your order, please inspect all boxes thoroughly. Tiles of Ezra will not be held responsible for mosaics that have already been installed.

As a melted-glass product, you can expect natural variation in tone, reflectivity, and surface clarity. Minor surface ripples, chips, or subtle textural irregularities from the glass-melting process are normal characteristics of the material.

Please allow 10–20% overage when ordering to accommodate cuts, layout planning, and potential breakage in transit.

Before you install

Dust or residue may be present from production and packaging.

Wipe the surface of each mosaic sheet gently with a soft, damp cloth prior to installation.

Blending

For a seamless finish:

  • Blend sheets from all boxes in your order.
  • Lay out the entire area before installation to evenly distribute tonal variation.
  • Both installer and client should review the layout and agree on positioning and orientation.
Orientation

All Ondara mosaics are supplied paper-faced (unless special order was requested), with the paper surface installed facing forward. Ensure sheets are installed with the glass side toward the substrate.

Grout colour

Grout contributes significantly to the final look.

We strongly recommend:

  • Reviewing grout colours onsite
  • Completing a test section
  • Confirming grout width and hue with both client and installer before installation

Adhesive selection

Use a high-quality adhesive suitable for glass mosaics and for the area of installation (internal, damp, external, or pool environments).

Due to the translucent nature of glass mosaics, the colour and consistency of the adhesive bed can affect the finished appearance of the installation, especially in lighter colourways. A white or neutral-curing adhesive formulated for glass mosaics is recommended and should be applied evenly to achieve a consistent visual result.

Adhesive application guidelines:

  • Apply evenly with the correct trowel size
  • Avoid ridges or voids that may be visible through translucent glass
  • Ensure the adhesive fully supports the mosaic without bleeding through the joints

Consult your installer or a local adhesive specialist for an adhesive appropriate to the specific project.

Installing Ondara in wet areas

Ondara mosaics are suitable for showers, spas, steam rooms, wet rooms, and fully submerged applications such as swimming pools.

Ensure waterproofing is completed by a qualified professional.

Grouting

Grout is essential to protect tile edges, unify the installation, and ensure water resistance in wet areas.

General guidelines:

  • For dry areas: a quality cementitious grout is suitable.
  • For damp or high-use areas: choose a grout with waterproof or mould-resistant properties.
  • For submerged environments (pools): use a high-performance grout designed for long-term water exposure.

Remove excess grout promptly with a damp sponge.

Do not allow grout to harden on the glass surface, as residue can be difficult to remove and may dull the finish.

Final finishing

Once grout has fully set, clean all mosaic surfaces with a soft cloth and water to remove any haze.

Ondara mosaics do not require sealing, as glass is non-porous.

Allow grout to cure fully before using the area, following grout manufacturer guidelines.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Glass mosaics are durable and easy to maintain with proper care.

Use pH-neutral cleaners or mild soapy water for routine cleaning.

Avoid strong acidic or alkaline products, abrasive pads, scourers, or harsh chemicals.

For stubborn stains, use only gentle, glass-safe cleaners and always test in a hidden area first.

Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth to minimise mineral deposits, especially in hard-water regions.

After shower or wet-area use, drying the surface helps prevent limescale buildup.

Avoid heavy impact, as glass may chip or crack under force.

Some signs of wear over time are normal and expected.
